Marine Stadium II

In July 2010 a new Virginia Key master plan was to be voted on by the Miami City Commission. This plan, based on the work of an architectural studio in the spring of 2010, was a derivation of the master plan that I had helped create the year before. In order to further refine this plan, work was done during the summer of 2010. The upcoming vote would allow for a roadmap for future development. This was an important milestone in the restoration of the Stadium and Virginia Key planning.

The focus of this work was to marry the aesthetics of the previous master plans with tangible issues such as parking and boat storage. Like before, the restored historic Miami Marine Stadium is the focal point for the Marine Park and Virginia Key, which enhances the principle entry to the harbor and the island. The sites west of the Stadium will focus on boating and maritime culture by interweaving the natural relationship between the two activities. The new marina west of the stadium is configured to allow a phasing strategy that accommodates the existing leases.

This master plan was approved by a unanimous vote.
